Description
The William A Irvin is a museum cargo ship anchored permanently in the Duluth Harbor. It is a well preserved "Laker" which is typical of the cargo ships used to transport iron ore across Lake Superior to steel mills in the East. The ship was built in 1938 and hauled iron ore for the Pittsburg Steamship Division of US Steel until 1978. The William A Irvin is 610 feet long with a carrying capacity of 13,600 tons. Duluth, Minnesota.
